Argrow’s House is a healing house in the QC offering free services to survivors of domestic violence and abuse, while also selling bath and body products created by these survivors to provide them with financial independence. The space where survivors can be housed is located in Davenport, but their Moline storefront location offers a community center, and their soaps are made and cured in the back of the same building. The majority of the space is decorated purple and teal, representing domestic violence and sexual assault awareness.

Founder and spiritual director Dr. Kit Evans-Ford first opened Argrow’s House in 2017, and the mission has always focused on healing and hope. After seeing her grandmother Argrow Margaret Warren survive domestic abuse during her marriage, and becoming a survivor of sexual assault herself, Evans-Ford began to focus her work and research on what helps women dealing with trauma. Argrow’s House is her research come to life, as they offer free holistic services, financial empowerment, and a space for women survivors to heal but also celebrate themselves and have fun.

Evans-Ford was also inspired by Thistle Farms, a Nashville-based nonprofit also built to support women survivors. Many similar organizations along with Argrow’s House are a part of a global share trade network, so the storefront sells many handmade products from similar organizations around the globe. There’s earrings from California, Jordan, Haiti, honey from Baltimore, even cosmetic bags from the Dominican Republic. Local QC artists’ work can also be found in the #SurvivorStrong Market, with the proceeds going to Argrow’s House.

In 2019, Evans-Ford was awarded with the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for Outstanding Public Service Benefiting Local Communities, as she was recognized by the Jefferson Awards Foundation for her work, and for “multiplying good” in the Quad Cities. Although Evans-Ford has lived in a variety of states and countries, the Quad Cities has been her home for almost a decade and she’s so grateful for the opportunity to provide an uplifting environment here.

One of Evans-Ford’s biggest challenges with Argrow’s House is ensuring that any survivor that needs legal aid will get the proper representation. She hopes to one day have a network of attorneys who would take these cases pro-bono or to hire their own attorney, but currently many survivors use the legal services locally provided.

All of Argrow’s House products are sold at their storefront, as well as online and at other QC locations including UnityPoint Health Trinity campuses in Rock Island, Moline, and Bettendorf. Check out Argrow’s House for your bath and body needs, while also supporting survivors.
