River Bandits

Modern Woodmen’s Park
209 S Gaines St, Davenport, IA 52802

Summer in the Quad Cities means baseball, and the River Bandits do not disappoint. This local professional minor league baseball team is the only remaining original member of the Midwest League and is the Class High-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. All of their home games are played at Modern Woodmen’s Park near downtown Davenport.

Although the team has been around since 1960, their more recent history is one to boast about. In their past ten seasons, the River Bandits have won four championships. President/CEO of Mainstreet Baseball and majority owner of the River Bandits, Dave Heller, is so grateful to have made the Quad Cities home for himself and his team.

Heller has owned the River Bandits since 2007 and has made several innovations since then. The baseball stadium has seen several new additions, including two outfield bars, a new playing field, and even a 58-panel solar farm. Amusement rides were another large addition, and some of their newer rides like Wind Up, Double Play, and the double-tier carousel have the majority of their profits going to the nonprofit Carousel Charitable Trust dedicated to helping QC children in need. The 105-foot Ferris wheel that can be seen from Centennial Bridge is the only Ferris wheel in a minor league baseball stadium in the world. 50 cents of every amusement ride are also donated to the QC through the Genesis Foundation and Community Fund.

While the River Bandits provide the Quad Cities with baseball entertainment, their reach in the community goes further than baseball fans. The Bandits Scholars program was created by Heller in 2009 and provides scholarships for local students for the higher learning institutions in the QC: Augustana College, St. Ambrose University, and Eastern Iowa Community College. Through jersey auctions, multiple programs like the River Bandits Race to Home 5K, and different promotions, the team has made a significant impact on the Quad Cities community.

Game tickets are $15, and the park also hosts special events like pint glass giveaways, free admission or free amusement rides, and bobblehead giveaways. Their schedule with promotions can be found on their website, and tickets can also be purchased at the door.

If you’re looking for an evening of home runs, giving back to the QC community, and a unique ballpark experience, the River Bandits are the team to root for. And make sure to say hello to their mascot, Rascal the River Bandit!
